Reflections on Allah's Mercy

The word mercy (Rahmah) in Arabic is derived from the root of R'H'M. One of the words dervived from this root is Irhaam which means the womb. It is a perfect picture on what the word Rahmah means. Generally, in english the word mercy means two things blessing and to show kind forbearce of ones mistakes. In Arabic the word Rahmah means much more; it would include to evolve someone (nurture) to a higher point, it also means to protect, and to be saved. From the womb the mother becomes the source of mercy for the child. Nowadays, we people have become like a little child. We ask and expect God to give us full attentiion, they way a child expects it from his/her mother. When a child is totally helpless, at that time the child needs the mother total attention. However as the child grows up; the child begins the journey of independence; and the mother allows the child the steps on his/her own, and starts to teach him/her how to eat, dress, etc. The mother does not see this as making the child suffer; even if the child sees it as so... The same is the case, on our day to day, week to week, year to year the frustrations we find in our lives, marragies, work and society. The frustrations our part of nuturing process, a way to look into ourselves and see our inner flaws to become better person. As a wise mother will not take and hold the child at every step, rather she will let the child "suffer" so the child learns, grows, etc. we should not expect God to be waiting on us for help on in every difficuty; when we are small and helpless God gave us caretakers who give us full attention. Now he wants us to learn and grow. We act like little upset children when God does not show us the care we expect Him to give. This is why the Prophets of Allah suffered the most. The mercy of Allah is always present, but just like a bitter medicine it sometimes does not feel good.
